|The Village of Wynot incorporated May 4, 1908 has a population of 191 (census 2000) and is in Cedar County. Cedar County was established in 1857 and is named for its numerous red cedar trees.
Wynot came into being as a direct result of the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Omaha Railroad's expansion across Cedar County.
In selecting a name for the town, it is said that one struck the fancy of an elderly gentleman from whom the land was purchased, he responded "JA, Vy not? Warum nicht?". The Wynot?" And so that name was chosen.
